University of Brigant Opens the LLM Corporate Governance & Compliance to Practitioners

University of Brigant has opened the next intake of the LLM Corporate Governance & Compliance. It is a practitioner master's in law for people who already work in or near governance — company secretaries, compliance officers, in-house counsel, board advisers, regulators — and want a rigorous legal grounding for the decisions they already make.

The curriculum covers directors' duties and corporate personality, board effectiveness and accountability, comparative corporate governance systems, legal research methods for practitioners, financial-services regulation and conduct risk, ESG governance and disclosure law, anti-bribery and financial-crime investigations, and data protection and technology governance. It ends with a dissertation on a governance problem the student chooses.

"This is not a conversion course to become a solicitor," the programme leader said. "It is for the person who sits in the room when a board makes a decision and needs to know, precisely, what the law requires and what the regulator will expect."
