Academic English Support at University of Brigant for African Students Who Already Excel in Another Language
Many students and working professionals across Africa who want a serious degree without leaving their country, their job, or their family do their best professional thinking in a language that is not the language of assessment. University of Brigant has expanded academic English support that treats this as a strength to be bridged, not a defect.
Tutors work on academic stance, hedging, source integration and clarity. They will not erase a student's voice into empty corporate English. Grace Namukasa, a HIV trial coordinator in Kampala, used sessions to make claims more precise, not more pompous.
Where the university already supports another campus language in student services, advisers may explain procedures in that language. Assessed work remains in the language of the programme unless a validated exception exists.
